    MTM v`s other chip set?

Have an MTM chip set and only gets 15 psi so 1 bar?

Should there be more from this ?

What do you guys think is the best option for greater psi.

    Thanks in advance.

As standard the 3B only has a 1 bar ( 200Kpa ) MAP sensor, so most off the shelf chip sets for the 3B only allow 1 bar of boost. If you need more and you will need to fit the MAP sensor from an ABY which will allow 1.5bar boost, this sensor will have 250Kpa on it.

I took my s2 to mr collins and the car does run well but more is required. So max chip is only a 1 bar map then.

I take it the question I should be asking them is if mtm to a bigger MAP sensor to get 20 psi or remove mtm and replace with forum recommendations ( one as Andy was mentioning )

          Contact MRC tuning, www.mrctuning.com

They do a generic chip for the S2 3b and i don't thing there is anything on the market that can match it, (apart from a custom remap)

If you mention this forum you might even get a good deal as they used to have a big discount promotion.

You can post them your ECU, they will modify it and fit the chips as well as a 1.5bar sensor.

You should be seeing 1.4bar then and a load more torque, more details on there website.

          HTH.

            Yeah MRC time I think.

You'll see more torque with over 1 bar but the power will be pretty much the same as at 6k where max power is the boost will be about 0.9 to 0.8 bar.

I have also a 3b with mtm chipset, the sticker on the ecu says 250-262, 250 stands for 250kpa I think.
                Max Boost is 1,4 bar.

I think im running pretty much the same set up – MTM derived chips designed for a standard 3b map sensor – so the most I see is also about 15psi. Had a bit of a wild goose chase as I used to see slightly higher levels (18ish psi) but have generally come to the conclusion that it must have been down to some oddity that has sorted itself out now!!

Really happy generally with performance at present and the chips truly transformed the car from standard - but ever since Ive got it into my noggin that Ive “lost” a little boost Ive been toying with the idea of uprating to a 2.5 bar map sensor set up, if only to bring the 3b more in line with the performance of a chipped ABY, if that’s possible. But - as per the thread - what’s the best option! As has been pointed out before they are a lot of bad chips out there, which makes me wary and still debating if its really worth it, whilst keeping an eye out for a possible 3b homefry option which is probably the best way to acheive this!

But - can you transplant an ABY map sensor into a 3b ECU? – I thought unfortunately it wasn’t that simple!

                  Cheers

                    Hey Paul

I will spk to Mr C at QST today / tomorrow and get the low down on what can, cant be done from a QST remap as in can a bigger MAP sensor be "plug and played" and other details related.

Will post details as to get a bit more pre new turbo`s etc has got to be a winner.

At the moment I am thinking

Bigger Intercooler from carstens link < £200 and fits straight onto 3b XM
                    Samco`s from Mr Nugent
RS2 metal gasket as recommended by above

and pending QST a slightly bigger MAP to give 1.3 - 1.5 bar so a healthy 18 - 20 psi

That I reckon has to be the most cost effective way for more beans .

                    What do you reckon?

I'm not sure what chips in mine but I do have the bigger mapsensor and I have been seeing 21psi and at times 24-25psi with no problems.

(apart from recently the clutch )

MB-Cartuning can recalibrate a 3B or an ABY map sensor to 300kPa for 80 euros. I think this is what Minhea does as well when a 3B is remapped, albeit to 250kPa.
